  • 3D and 4D ultrasounds are advanced imaging techniques used during pregnancy to provide more detailed and lifelike images of the developing fetus compared to traditional 2D ultrasounds.

3D Ultrasound: In a 3D ultrasound, multiple 2D images are captured from different angles and then combined to create a three-dimensional image of the fetus. This technology allows for a clearer and more detailed view of the baby's features, such as the face, hands, and feet, providing expectant parents with a more realistic representation of their unborn child.

4D Ultrasound: 4D ultrasound takes the technology one step further by adding the element of time to the 3D images. This means that not only can parents see a three-dimensional image of their baby, but they can also observe real-time movements, such as yawning, sucking their thumb, or even smiling. The fourth dimension, time, adds a dynamic and immersive aspect to the ultrasound experience, allowing parents to bond with their baby in a way that was not possible with traditional 2D imaging.

  • It's best to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Try to avoid tight jeans or clothing restrictive of your lower belly area.

  • No. Currently insurance does not cover the cost of the ultrasound. We do offer several packages & payment options to ensure everyone has a chance to see their baby before they're born.

This is a completely elective procedure, and should not take the place of your physician’s diagnostic ultrasound.

  • Extensive studies over the past 30 years have found that ultrasounds have not shown any harmful effects to mother or baby. 3D/4D ultrasounds use the exact same intensity as a normal 2D ultrasound. Ultrasound does not use any type of radiation or harmful agents; the images are simply created with the use of sound waves. If you have any questions regarding the safety of the ultrasound, you should consult your physician.

A FAQ we get is “when is the best time to see baby in 3D/4D?” The best time to get a 3D/4D Ultrasound really depends on how you’d like to view baby. Below is a breakdown of stages to help parents set realistic expectations and choose the best time for their 3D/4D ultrasound experience.

  • 10-17 Weeks

APPEARANCE: At this early stage, the baby is quite small, and the facial features are still forming. The baby’s skeletal system is still developing, and the skin is very thin, so the images may appear more skeletal.

BENEFITS: While detailed facial features may not be clearly visible, this period is excellent for seeing the baby’s full body movements and general development. It’s also a good time for early gender determination if desired.

CHALLENGES: Due to the lack of fat under the skin and the small size of the baby, the images might not be as clear or detailed as later in the pregnancy.

  • 18-25 Weeks

APPEARANCE: As the baby grows, the facial features become more defined. The development of muscles and the addition of some fat under the skin make the baby’s appearance more distinct.

BENEFITS: This period is great for capturing detailed images of the baby’s face and observing movements like kicking and stretching. It’s also an ideal time for parents who want to see a good combination of facial detail and overall body development.

CHALLENGES: While clearer than the earlier stage, the baby’s features may still be slightly less defined compared to the optimal period of 26-34 weeks.

  • 26-40 Weeks

APPEARANCE: Between 26 and 34 weeks, the baby’s facial features are well-defined, and there is enough fat under the skin to give a clear, lifelike image. Post 32 weeks, the baby’s face becomes more developed, giving a good visual of what baby will look like once they’re born

BENEFITS: The 26–34-week window is ideal for capturing clear, detailed images of the baby’s face, expressions, and movements. It’s the best time for 3D/4D ultrasounds as the images will be the most detailed and lifelike.

CHALLENGES: After 36 weeks, the baby may be positioned lower in the pelvis, with reduced space. The baby’s movements are more restricted, and there may be more instances of the baby covering their face with their hands or feet.
